A great place. There are not many hostels in the states, but this is a good one. The breakfast is pretty good and in a chill area on the ground level. It feels cozy and reception knows a lot about the island and can answer questions. The location is perfect for the nightlife of Waikiki and as a jumping off point for the rest of the island. I liked that even the "8-person" rooms were made up of two 4-person rooms so there was more privacy than if it was one big 8-person room.
This is the best place to stay in Waikiki. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Clean rooms, nice common area and a ton of things to do nearby for free or very low cost. Rent a scooter from next door and have fun, or the nearby bus line is cheap and goes all over the island.
The Waikiki Beachside Hostel is as basic as it gets for a hostel. I have a sneaking suspicion that it used to be an apartment complex, but the only evidence I have for that is the layout of the 8-person room I stayed in. The room was in a reasonably good condition, and the bed and pillow, while uneven and lumpy, surprisingly provided a good night's sleep. I do wish there were more power outlets in convenient locations, and the wifi was really spastic, especially in the evenings. But for the price and location, it's not too bad of a choice if you need a cheap place to stay in Waikiki.
The location is very good, but no a/c in the room. They only provide you 1 pillow case and 2 bed sheets, no blanket which I'm not use to. At least they can provide a light one.
I didn't find any TV, it'd be nice to watch some sports after a long day at the beach.
I liked the services and the fact that breakfast is provided in the morning. The common area is a nice place to sit out and enjoy the weather. The walls have traditional Hawaiian paintings - perfect for photos. The beach is a stone's throw away, so that is cool too. There is Subway and the ABC store nearby, you will never be out of food options. The only issue we had was the AC was not very effective. Overall, a nice place to stay at this cost.
