Great central location, walking distance to beach and Waikiki, without the noise, congestion and commercial tourism that plagues Honolulu. Easy parking, free Wi-Fi, great breakfasts with local delicacies, fresh tropical fruit, excellent coffee and a nice tea selection for my non-coffee-drinking buddy. Huge airy rooms, well appointed with eclectic antiques, and nice mini-fridge with (no charge!) cold water, pop and local micro-brews, complimented by a lovely porch where we often sat and enjoyed morning coffee or a glass of wine at sunset. Helpful hostess ready to suggest best place to eat, snorkel, shop, etc... Beats the heck out of being stuck in Waikiki in a hotel!
11. kitchen wasn’t clean enough for bed and breakfast
12. house unlocked and rooms didn’t have locks
1. roaches in our room
Don’t ruin your Hawaii trip by staying at Diamond Head Bed and Breakfast. Here are a few things we experienced:
This is NOT where you want to stay if you are looking for the crowds and action in Waikiki.
4. room wasn’t clean when arriving
8. poor parking
That said, if you want to experience Honolulu without the tourist traps, you will not find a better place to stay than here. The rooms and patios are large, comfortable and clean. There are plenty of trees and open space as well as excellent cross-ventilation for the local breezes instead of air conditioning. Joanne and Sumiko are friendly and accommodating. You are a five-minute drive from the beaches at Waikiki and a 15-minute drive from anywhere of consequence between Downtown and Kahala.
5. hoarder house that wasn’t clean
10. no air-conditioning
3. no person in charge when coming in at night
9. junk piled at end of dining table
We had a wonderful 2 night stay at this lovely B & B. Owner Joanne was gracious and helpful and the breakfasts were terrific. The second morning we were treated to some very delicious dim sum -- after another guest had requested it and my husband and I expressed our enthusiasm for the idea. Our room -- the Makai Suite -- was large and the view of Waikiki from our second floor lanai was fabulous. The location is perfect -- on a quiet street and only a 10 or 15 minute walk to Waikiki Beach. It was wonderful to be able to leave our car there and not have to worry about parking in Waikiki! We feel that this place is a very good value for the money, and we would definitely stay here again.
6. website pictures were unrepresentative
Lovely people with an exceptional old Hawaiian home in ideal location for Waikiki beach. Our room had all features you'd want with extras like a large balcony, insect repellent, bikes or snorkel kit to borrow, and a couple of complementary local beers in the fridge. The food was great and there was a range of indoor, patio or garden locations to eat breakfast, with or without other guests. Everything was given a very personal touch with every effort to please guests and make all our family feel special. Thanks for a lovely stay in Honolulu!
2. two big dogs growling at us when coming in after dinner – that wouldn’t let us get to our room
7. junk cars and broken furniture piled in back yard next to exit gate
