There is a restroom with doors on the stalls, but they don't lock... Which drives me nuts because I was desperate to use the restroom and I was so paranoid that someone was going to come in and open the stall door. Also, no paper towels or soap dispenser. I do have to say that the restroom was clean.
There are rocks to climb (none where you could potentially fall into an abyss) and varying challenges. I'd rate this as a pretty intensive hike so if you're not in decent shape you shouldn't attempt it.
This park with hiking trail is not well known on Oahu. Which is actually quite amazing because it was one of the more enjoyable hikes that I've been on.
Enter here to hike to Mt Olympus. From parking lot to the top is approx 3 miles in. Take gloves and shoes with good grip or spikes. Great views when it's clear.
All in all, I'd day this hike is well worth exploring. Much of it is shady.
There is a covered pavilion near the parking lot and when we returned from our hike a group of people were having a gathering.
Great hike. For the adventurous keep going past the end of trail signs, before it turns down into Manoa. Great views over the Ko'olau's if you go far enough.
My son hiked this trail previously with his boy scout troop and he said it started pouring rain while they were on their hike. It led to dangerous conditions because the water was cascading down the rocks that you have to climb. My advice is to not attempt this hike if it is raining. He is much more of a risk taker than I am and if he was scared I'd think twice.
While there are some beautiful views, the hike is NOT easy. In fact, we found it challenging at many times due to the vertical climb or drop over rocks and/or roots. Being a ridge trail, often the trail is very narrow with steep slopes down on either side. I don't recommend bringing children under age 5. It took fives of us 65 min to walk 1.1 miles per Strava which was less than half way to Mt Olympus. People seem to post highlight photos but there are MANY roots to walk around. The roots also create steps and become hand rails. Closed toed walking/hiking shoes recommended. Also beware of where you walk as I didn't see pet owners using bags to pick up their waste. We were really glad we checked out the trail as it was interesting and about 80% of it was shaded with a breeze. Bring water. We found the walk back, which was mostly downhill, was faster.
I do have to say that while the view is decent, the attraction for me was in the actual hike experience.
So, the drive up to the park is a bit freaky if you aren't from the area (Wisconsinite here!) But when you arrive you will be greeted with glorious trees, bathrooms, tables, kind employees, and a hike to remember!! It's not easy so please PLEASE wear proper shoes. Also be prepared as it can rain anytime and the path is slippery and can be steep. Worth it for the view, the exercise, and the peace.
