Great place to hike. The first part of the trail is mostly paved with some interesting bridges that you can transverse over. You can continue hiking after the paved trail ends (about 3 miles in), however it quickly becomes overgrown and difficult to hike. There is a small parking lot for you to park in and some restrooms at the beginning of the trail.

Bring a headlamp, gloves, and a light rain jacket. No matter what your skill level is in hiking you can never be too prepared with this trail. This trail takes you to so many sites that are popular and Stairway to heaven is one of them. No matter which scenic route you take, they're extremely dangerous. Up on the ridge the trail is muddy, exposed to wind and rain and trail width is smaller than a single track with lots of overgrown plants. WEAR LONG PANTS if you plan to go up on the ridge trails.

Very Popular "State of Hawaii" trail!

NOTE: The Moanalua Valley Park at the head of the trail is a City and County of Honolulu , Department of Parks and Recreation Park. The parking lot in the Park, before the trail head is for Park users only, not Trail users. Hikers are welcome to use the park and it's facilities, just remember to park outside, unless you are using the Park.

Our time was amazing here! Bring lots of water & good walking shoes! This is a great walk for a group of people. Once you pass the 1st 3 miles, it starts getting a bit rough and the path gets narrow. There will be a section where you will need to climb up before getting to the staircase of heaven.

Not a difficult hike very flat and wide . Nice picnic area for after. Good for group or early morning hikes.
