Highlight of my Hawaii trip was snorkeling in the bay. Live coral, many beautiful fish.
The Kaka'ako Waterfront Park is edge by rocky seawalls. Hop over to Ala Moana Beach if you want sand. I heard this park was build up over trash landfill. The tele-tubby looking hills and bumps are perfect for grass surfing. I am not sure if the fun is discouraged. Check the posted sign. I know skateboarding is not welcome here.
Completely occupied by the homeless. Not really a public beach now. I highly recommend you do not go here until the issue is fixed.
Park is once again closed because of damage caused by homeless. The city plays wack-a-mole with the homeless people in Honolulu. Once they are cleared out of one park, they just go occupy another, and so on and so on. The homeless crisis is caused, of course, by the housing crisis. Is there anything the city or state can do? Doubt it, real estate speculators wield too much influence. Those on the street wield none.
This is a large scenic park next to the ocean. Pretty views along the coast towards Waikiki and Diamond Head. Lots of picnic tables and open fields. Unfortunately, the park was closed when we tried to visit in November 2017. News reports say it may reopen in January 2018.
