Impressive variety and work pieces from different epochs and culture. A beautiful gem right in our little island of Oahu.
I like the venue more than the art. There are beautiful little gardens representing different cultures. The store is interesting, though pricey (normal for a museum store). Some of their most exquisite art is on tour. I do enjoy they Middle Eastern display which contradicts some common stereotypes of Middle Eastern at including that figures are not depicted in Muslim art.
A great window for the Polynesian culture. Best in door activity on the island so if it's raining you probably want to go there
It has many artifacts, variety of art types, much information and is very open. I found some of the art beautiful, some intricate art in which the artist's seemed to have a sense of humour, and other that was elegant. The first time in can be a bit of a maze to get through. We did not make it through the whole building in 2 hours, which was only problematic because we had to keep running out to feed the meter. We did enjoy running through at our own pace so that we could focus on each piece at our own pace. We will be back to see the rest☺
Absolutely beautiful, airy buildings and courtyards; interesting and eclectic Asian art collections; lovely tropical-themed ikebana tucked in various corners; friendly staff. Cafe is ridiculously pricey but the food is quite good. A peaceful, rejuvenating way to spend a day in Honolulu, far from the crowds. One of the nicest spots in the islands, in my view.
