I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. This is paradise but there is danger at this location. There are nationally recognized world-class healthcare organizations easily accessible on this island and around the state. I recommend driving to one of them.
The first doctor I seen just kind of wrote off my abnormal excessive bleeding, even while I was at the hospital. He just sent me home and said monitor my blood loss.
I wish someone would have told me about this hospitals horrible reputation because they've earned it.
I want to share my experience at this hospital. I have lots of experience with the healthcare industry and many hospitals around the United States and Hawaii, and based on my first-hand experience this Hospital Kapiolani Women's and Children's Medical Center is one of the worst I have ever experienced. I don't say this lightly.
Gave birth here in September 2017 and it was amazing! I had the best experience and loved all of my nurses! They were such great help and wished I could deliver here again. My daughter also goes to the Pediatrician here and we love all the doctors
Kapiolani appears to epitomize the modern trend of for-profit healthcare, valueing profit above all else including patient best outcomes.
Coming from a neighbor island I must say this hospital is amazing.. ALL of the staff in the Wilcox unit are angels!! Our social worker is on it! And they make us feel so comfortable.. thank you all a billion
But the 2nd time around, the doctors were shocked to know my first dr. had let me leave; I had lost half of the blood in my body within a 4 day time span. They immediately sent in a request for a blood transfusion (with my consent of course); they gave me pain medicine, liquids, and were so helpful!! If it wasn’t for the nurses and Doctors that helped me that day I wouldn’t be alive! Thank you to the blood bank as well! Literally, saved my life!
My experience at Kapiolani was horrible. The doctors and nurses didn't seem to even look at me like a person, they made numerous mistakes, both intentional and unintentional, their internal controls don't seem to exist other than to ensure maximum profitability even at patient expense, and finally danger. This hospital is incredibly dangerous because of these reasons I've described and more.
Kapiolani Hospital is our children hospital. I bring my sick kids to Kapiolani ER during after hours (when the pediatrician office is closed). The ER doctors here are better with kids than Queen's. The ER waiting room is kid themed with a aquarium - a calming device for kids that has bead up her nose, or another with stomach flu, or another with a broken toe from a dropped brick.
