The brunch prices are astronomical, even for a place like Honolulu where the prices are already high. We left feeling like we had been gouged.
Case in point... A coffee is $4.50 and there are no free refills. An iced tea - nothing special about it - is six dollars, also with no refills. I had the scrambled eggs and bacon, which was $22. Just down the street at eggs and things, the same meal would cost $9, have bigger portions, and include bottomless cup of coffee.
To add insult to injury, when the bill was presented, the suggested tip was 22%. I feel sorry for the foreign tourists who are taken advantage of with that recommendation.
On the plus side, the ambience is very pleasant and the server was friendly. Even so, I won't be returning.
Perfect everyday dining. Light, fresh, and healthy local Hawaiian farm-to-table choices. Everything from their fresh tea to the best Bloody Mary, we can't get enough of this place. Chopped Salad (with everything in it) and their Avocado Tuna Poke are must-haves. Relaxed and gracious staff are consistently excellent.
What a surprise this place is. I expected a casual neighborhood scale cafe. When I entered at street level and was greeted by a kind hostess who directed us to go up a grand curving modern staircase, that was my first what’s up moment. The dining room on the second level is contemporary tropical elegance. And everything on the menu is refined and special. My first impression was that it all seemed a bit too fussy and pricey. Every cup of coffee and tea is bespoke, for example. Why can’t this breakfast spot brew some coffee too? But the food was good. We ordered avocado toast and granola/yogurt/compote. Both orders were very nicely prepared with best quality ingredients. We will return. And next time, we really must try the pancakes. They do look good.
The customer service was top notch! I wish I remembered our server's name because he was great. The food was really good, building and decor was clean, neat, and very, VERY white, but didn't feel sterile, and I loved the $5 lattes. My one gripe would be the price. Go around the corner about a hundred feet and get a fantastic meal at Eggs and Things for a fraction of the price.
I had such high expectations for Bill's. Unfortunately I was let down...Since the first day in Hawaii, everyone recommended Bill's for breakfast. The pancakes are their specialty, and was the menu item I chose. After a short wait, the pancakes arrived. First appearance they looked scrumptious. But after the first bite, I discovered they were more dry than expected. My first reaction was to add some syrup to add more flavor and moisture to the pancakes. When pouring the maple syrup, I had to meter the amount of syrup because of the thimble sized container of syrup that is provided for the three, very large pancakes. The service was great, and the restaurant is well kept, but sadly I won't be back.
