I'm writing a really specific review. If you are looking for a annual business listing (similar to yellow pages but smaller) of Macau. Hamilton Library has some.
The librarian I talked with was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. There are multiple floors with a whole lot of shelves crammed with books, and several spots to study. Some outlets here and there. WiFi is for UH, so bring a hotspot phone or such if you need network.
I find it easier to narrow my focus here compared to other libraries.
The issue with people talking seems to be one that no one wants to do anything about, since staff members and guards will often ignore it and allow it to continue. Etiquette and common courtesy are seriously lacking here.
Public parking nearby for a $2 a half hour (woah). There's a parking structure on Dole for $5 (about a 10 minute walk) or you can try to scrap a free parking spot along Dole street.
Unlike virtually every other graduate library in the world, Hamilton is not open all/most of the time. On the weekend, it closes early and opens late, which is a major problem if you're working a job (which many graduate students do) and trying to use your weekend in a productive manner.
A quiet and respectful place with an abundance of books for studies.
The library does, however, have two major weaknesses: 1) the hours are irritating, and 2) there are often people talking (person-to-person, on phones) in designated quiet areas.
Excellent place to study on campus, this library has A/C and many places to get work done in quiet and study-friendly locations. This is a really large library as well with a large selection of books and esoteric magazines that are generally cost-prohibitive to the majority of the public. I think the magazine selection is a big part of what makes this library special, but there are a lot of other characteristics specific to this library that make it special.
Studying and researching here is OK overall. The library offers a fair amount of study areas and resources are usually not too difficult to come by. The library's online database is pretty good, and there are computer/printing services available. Parking on campus is free on Sunday (but not on other days of the week).
