4: Staff removed my shoes for me to encourage a relaxing experience
The bill for ALL of this was $50 because it was my first time. Normally it is $60, though. I was worried that the quality of the different treatments would be not-so-great because of the price, but I was VERY wrong. Every single aspect was performed as if I had paid separately for each service. In total, I would say the normal value of everything would be at least $200 here in Honolulu. Add an incredibly polite and attentive staff, and you have a recipe for what is, in my opinion, the best barbershop in the city. The chain, based in Tokyo, has only been open since November. I had never heard about it before my random google search for a haircut place today, so I feel like they don't advertise. The experience was so phenomenal that I've made it my personal mission to try and refer as many people as I can, so that they can stay open and I can continue to go there.
1: I walked in to see a sharp-dressed staff. Men were dressed in black slacks, white button-ups, and black vests. Women were dressed in a similar fashion.
7: After the cut, my hair was washed again, and I received another amazing scalp massage.
3: The receptionist brought me a hot towel infused with lemongrass oil to cleanse my face before I went in the back.
9: After the shave, the barber gave me a great shoulder and back massage according to my preferences on the questionnaire I filled out.
My boyfriend cut his hair yesterday and Eiichi was very professional. He tried several high end salon and I'm glad we finally found one. Also, the tea was very nice.
English is the second language here, but as long as you bring a picture of yourself with the haircut you want, or just a picture of the haircut in general, they have no problem giving you exactly what you want. The female staff member spoke pretty good English and served as a translator for any concepts that weren't clear between my barber and I. I have no intention of every going anywhere else, and this is BY FAR the best haircut experience of my life.
Japanese salons tend to be outstanding, but even in this already excellent category Salon Sky is exceptional. Lovely ambiance, impeccable service, and (most importantly) great haircuts.
2: Started off with a questionnaire about my skin/scalp sensitivities, grooming concerns, desired massage intensity, and general areas you want to see improvements in.
I've tried Mojo's Barbershop, Phil's Barbershop, 18|8 Men's Salon, and Men's Grooming Salon Sky here in Honolulu. For the typical upscale barbershop experience, you are going to pay between $50 and $60 after tip. More often than not, my hair isn't even washed during the visit. If you want to add a shave to that, you usually need add about $30 for a straight razor experience. That's not the case at Salon Sky.
Here's my experience from start to end, with the $60 all-inclusive course:
10. My shoes were put back on for me, and I was walked back out front, but it didn't stop there.
6: While getting my haircut, a female staff member performed my manicure.
5: Barber washed my hair and gave a pretty solid scalp massage.
I am here traveling, which is unfortunate because I will not get a chance to come back and enjoy the outstanding service. Their service and skills were top notch. They cut my hair, trimmed my beard and used a straight razor to shave me and clean up my neck line and behind my ear. They also gave a hand treatment, which was very relaxing. Overall great experience and for all the services, when compared to other similar shops, very reasonably priced and the quality of service is just great. Notice i mentioned how great the service was more than once? there is a reason for that!
Outstanding service, attention to detail, and friendliness. Received a clean shave, hand and fingernail treatment, and facial care (eyebrow trim and skin toning). Everyone on staff was excellent. Had a most pleasant visit and will be back again. Highly recommended and in an up-and-coming neighbourhood in Kaka'ako. Even my wife enjoyed a refreshing tea and comfortable seating while waiting for me to finish. A stellar experience overall! I strongly recommend everyone to make use of this fantastic new salon.
11. While I waited for my bill, I was treated to a fresh cup of ice cold green tea.
Went in for the first time yesterday, am coming back in a couple of days for a Head Care Course.
8: They reclined my chair for the straight-razor shave. They also have face steamers that blow steam the entire time you are shaving, which is important because I am VERY prone to shaving irritation. The steam kept me from getting any at all. While the barber was doing this, the female staff-member gave me an amazing hand massage.
