Love Nisshodo chichidango and their peanut butter mochi! The aunty at the counter is always helpful and works fast. Make sure you know your order before you step up to the counter- there's usually (at least) 3 other people there that want to order too. Get there early for the peanut butter mochi or call ahead!
They have the best mochi on Oahu (imo).
For years, my cousin has brought chichi dango from Nisshodo to family events, and it was always a welcome treat. Soft, sweet, and eminently crave-able, these are some of my favorites.
Once inside, you'll find a simple counter where someone will take your order, then head into the back for a number of minutes to pack your order and bring it out. Simple, no-fuss, then you're out with your treats. If you've got a bigger order, it makes sense to call ahead but for smaller orders, it didn't seem to be necessary.
When bringing my kids to Hawaii for the first time, I had to hunt this place down. It's in a non-descript warehouse space off of Dillingham. Your GPS will get you close, then you just have to poke around the warehouses. There's just a door with a plainly lettered sign that says "NISSHODO" and, in smaller letters "MOCHI MANJU" above and "CHICHI DANGO" below.
Great little spot for Japanese treats. Wish we knew that you can order ahead to be sure to get the treats you want - - because the place is very popular!
Best chichi dango in Hawaii. I take a few dozen back to the mainland every time I go to Hawaii.
