It's exactly what you think it will be. Clear view of the beach and a great place to people watch. My wife and I were there over Halloween and it was amazing seeing everyone get involved. When we were in between activities we were able to amuse ourselves with walking the strip and taking in all that it had. A mix of buskers, buildings, statues and the beach keeps it interesting. Disabled access is easy, great for kids and families.
It's a very enjoyable place. Lots to do. Good starting point if you don't mind touristy with a lot of people or if you like to shop. May not be for every body but there are trips to other parts of the island and to other islands. If you want a quiet place Waikiki would not be what you are looking for.
Staying at Outrigger Waikiki, centrally located on the beach. So many shops & restaurants within walking distance. Easy to catch bus or other kinds of transportation. We like the Outrigger but there are many hotels of various levels. Kid friendly.
There's a freshly nice variety of restaurants and shops. I love Yard House. The Quicksilver store is huge! There's also cute little beach Hawaiian souvenir shops that are super cute. Parking isn't too bad and it's kept all really nice and clean.
Waikiki Beach Walk was amazing! I haven't been in a long time and just the scenery alone brought back treasured memories. There are plenty of places to shop and helpful locals in the area will guide you to exciting family places to eat!!
