Honolulu International Airport very orderly and well run Airport. Check into your fight before you arrive and save your valuable time. Plus if you own an electric car you can park for free nice random knowledge. But who if travels here on vacation has a car to use this service I guess if you live on the island that would be nice. While sitting here waiting for our fight looks like they might need to check the ceiling for a leak.
It was a great airport! When I flew to Hawai'i for vacation, I landed here. It was easy to navigate and get to the baggage claim and exit. To get rental cars, certain agencies have them in a building on site, and others provide a shuttle you take to the store. When I arrived in the airport for leaving, it was again simple! You go through departures, check-in bags, go through security. When you are cleared, there is a food court to eat. Once you are full, there are plenty of Hawaiian shops, and even familiar brands, to shop from. When you read the map, it is easy to get to the gate and board! Overall, it is a great airport!
Avoid the airport at all cost if you are just transiting. Passengers have to get out and go through security check again for international to domestic transfer. Just not worth it if there are alternatives available. Otherwise make sure you have ample time to find your way through the maze. It’s chaotic at best.
Hint, take photo of your parked car and any landmark (elevator graphic, entry door number, terminal number, gate number, etc) as you make your way to the gate. You'll be glad you did when time comes to look for your car.
This airport is confusing if you are not a regular. Hawaiian Airline has its own terminals and parking structure. It break all conventional thinking. I dare not to give someone direction on how to get to the Hawaiian Airline parking, what level you need to be, what lane you need to take. And then when you're in the parking lot, which side of the structure will be closest to your gate. There is no way to explain. Good luck.
Had a good time, easy to navigate with never having been there before. Staff were friendly and smiley. Airline staff were good and helpful as well. If you have time you should visit the Chinese garden area near the Starbucks, lovely place to sit if you have time.
